InnoPatchWizard is a little helper for the freeware program externer LinkInno installer and the freeware Patcher externer LinkVPatch.

The current problems

Inno is a great installer, but doesn't support patching by itself, vpatch is a great patcher, but the integration into Inno is a little bit work intense.

Our solution

Therefore, we've written a standard Inno Script, that uses includes written by InnoPatchWizard.

What you need

  1. You need (of course) an installed Inno Installer system with installed preprocessor (use the Quickstartpack). You get it for free at the above mentioned web-site.
  2. You need this installation package. Included in this package are some Inno installation scripts, the VPatch program and dll and last but not least the InnoPatchWizard. That's all!

How to work with this package

We've included a very small demo, that shows how the patch generation works. The demo installs one text and this text may be updated with a full update installer or by using the patch update installer.

After you have installed the package you can start the three scripts and compile it. You will get three small installers, you can play with.

The more interesting part is the content of the scripts. Just have a look on it.

If you want to adapt the scripts to your own needs, you will see that the most important file dependencies are included. The includefiles their self are written by the InnoPatchWizard. Starting the Patchwizard, you may select three directories:

  • One, which contains the old data
  • One, which contains the new data
  • One, where the patch data will be stored. The additional data must be in this directory, too (see demo).

If you have set the directories, just press the OK Button and all files contained in the old data directory will be processed. That's it!

Known limitations

The InnoPatchWizard assumes that all files that will be patched are stored in {app} (because the information from the Inno script filesection is not read out).
